Safety Manager

We are seeking a collaborative and principled Safety Manager to lead our commitment to protecting every team member and sustaining our OSHA VPP Star certification at a 600-employee, unionized heavy manufacturing site. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker and hands-on leader who models humility, fosters psychological safety, and inspires proactive engagement in safety and well-being.

What You'll Do

  • Champion a culture of safety aligned with VPP Star and Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) principles.
  • Empower employee-led initiatives like Hourly Safety Reps, peer observations, and grassroots safety conversations.
  • Partner with union leadership and all levels of the organization to build trust and shared ownership of safety.
  • Maintain a strong floor presence-listening, coaching, and reinforcing safety expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulations; lead audits, JHAs, and corrective actions.
  • Manage incident investigations with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Deliver engaging safety training and onboarding aligned with the companies principles
  • Monitor safety metrics and use data to guide decisions and improvements.
  • Lead and develop safety team members; collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of safety experience in heavy manufacturing.
  • Experience in a unionized environment with strong collaboration skills.
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA standards, VPP, BBS, and safety best practices.
  • Strong communicator and coach with a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Preferred certifications: CSP, CIH, CHMM.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS systems.
