Position Overview
An exciting opportunity awaits a seasoned Senior Process Chemist/Engineer to lead the development and optimization of rubber compound formulations and mixing processes within a high-performance manufacturing environment. This role is pivotal in ensuring consistent product quality, driving innovation in material science, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the production lifecycle.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in EPDM polymer science, rubber chemistry, and process engineering, along with a passion for solving complex technical challenges and enhancing operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead the development and refinement of EPDM rubber compound formulations and mixing parameters to ensure consistent quality and performance.
- Evaluate and qualify alternative chemical ingredients to support business continuity and cost optimization.
- Conduct technical studies and optimize rubber mixing cycles; monitor compound performance and ensure consistency.
- Utilize statistical process control (SPC) tools to validate compound specifications and maintain compliance with industry standards.
- Provide hands-on technical support to manufacturing teams, resolving quality issues and enhancing throughput.
- Collaborate with suppliers to address raw material quality concerns and implement corrective actions.
- Partner with R&D, Quality, and Engineering teams to improve formulation stability and mixing consistency.
- Lead or support Lean Six Sigma initiatives focused on continuous improvement and cost reduction.
- Promote and uphold a strong safety culture through personal accountability and best practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong foundation in polymer science, rubber formulation, or chemical process engineering.
- Proven expertise in rubber compounding, mixing equipment, and process optimization.
- Proficient in data-driven problem solving and statistical analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Skilled in rubber mixing control software, Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with Minitab is a plus.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or an advanced degree in Polymer Science, Materials Science, or Chemistry.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in EPDM rubber compounding and mixing.
- Familiarity with rubber extrusion, calendering, and lab testing equipment.
- Demonstrated success in process control and quality assurance within a manufacturing setting.
Working Conditions
- Based in a manufacturing facility with occasional site visits for project oversight and collaboration.
- Some travel may be required for vendor engagement, training, or project-related activities.

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Standing for extended periods.
- Occasional travel for vendor visits or training.
