Overview

We are seeking a Territory Manager to drive sales growth and manage key customer relationships across the Great Lakes region. This role is responsible for the full sales cycle-including account planning, forecasting, opportunity development, and closing-while supporting an investor‑owned utility in the Chicagoland area and its associated channel partners.

The Territory Manager will represent a broad portfolio of technical products and services, build long-term customer relationships, and collaborate internally to deliver tailored solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute territory sales plans, including customer visit strategies, key account planning, and order forecasting.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders up to the Director level.
  • Identify and pursue new business through proactive prospecting and lead generation.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for customer inquiries, issues, and technical support needs.
  • Deliver presentations, product demonstrations, and consultative selling engagements.
  • Negotiate and close sales opportunities, partnering with leadership as needed for complex deals.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Work with application and technical teams to develop customer‑specific solutions.
  • Coordinate with marketing, sales operations, channel management, and other internal teams to support territory strategy.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, opportunities, and pipeline activity in CRM systems.
  • Support factory visits and product acceptance activities as required.
  • Provide regular reporting on performance, forecasts, and key activities to leadership.
  • Stay current on new products and industry developments and share market insights with internal teams.
  • Build relationships through occasional after‑hours customer engagement.
  • Travel up to 80% as needed for customer meetings, events, and business support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in the electric power industry and/or selling to utilities.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and medium‑voltage distribution.
  • Proven success in sales, account development, and territory growth.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Experience in negotiating and closing complex deals.
  • Strong organizational and project‑management skills.
  • Proficient with CRM tools (Salesforce preferred).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
