Job Summary

In this role, you will identify, develop, and implement health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs and policies to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and organizational standards. This position reports to the Site Director and is responsible for overall workplace health and safety for all onsite individuals-employees, contractors, visitors, and guests. You will provide technical guidance on Environment, Health, and Safety matters for the site or business unit.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively implement and guide site-specific Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs and procedures; behavioral safety processes; organizational HSE requirements; problem analysis/troubleshooting; and interpretation of regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the incident reporting process, ensuring effective investigation, root-cause identification, reporting, corrective actions, trend analysis, and best-practice sharing.
  • Lead the risk assessment program, including but not limited to Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments, ergonomics, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), new chemicals, potent compounds, and equipment evaluations.
  • Participate in project planning and turnover processes related to new equipment, process improvements, and site modifications.
  • Manage HSE regulatory compliance programs, including permit requirements, documentation, and recordkeeping.
  • Develop and update site-specific HSE training aligned with regulatory requirements and corporate standards.
  • Contribute to or lead HSE, Sustainability, Corporate Responsibility, Business Continuity, and Crisis Management initiatives.
  • Serve as the site liaison for HSE regulatory agencies, corporate HSE functions, and customer-related HSE visits.
  • Translate organizational HSE initiatives into actionable strategic and tactical goals for the site.
  • Provide leadership for site HSE staff (if applicable).
  • Manage onsite security operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Environment, Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related scientific field.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the HSE field.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal HSE regulations.
  • Prior manufacturing experience in an industrial or production environment.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience developing and implementing HSE policies and procedures.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • Analytical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to track information and perform audits.
  • Ability to work irregular hours to support 24/7 operations when needed.
  • Strong communication skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Experience collaborating with senior leadership.

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 5% (up to 13 business days per year).

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary work: Ability to exert up to 10 lbs (4 kg) occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Involves sitting most of the time.
