Product Development Engineer

DSJ Global is currently partnered with a family-owned ridged packaging solutions firm who is looking to add a Product Development Manager to their team in Atlanta. The Product Development Manager will be responsible for leading and supporting the development of PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) packaging solutions. This role is responsible for managing full lifecycle product development projects while ensuring technical excellence, quality, and efficiency across manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management & Execution
    • Lead and manage PET product development projects, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and alignment with customer requirements.
    • Coordinate cross-functional teams including design, tooling, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
    • Prepare and manage project documentation, including quotations, timelines, and technical specifications.
  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting
    • Provide on-site technical support to manufacturing plants, addressing issues related to efficiency, quality, and equipment performance.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems involving electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems on ISBM (Injection Stretch Blow Molding) equipment.
    • Offer hands-on guidance during production trials and new product launches.
  • Process Optimization
    • Identify and analyze underperforming processes; implement improvements to enhance efficiency and product quality.
    • Collaborate with plant teams to standardize best practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Training & Development
    • Assess training needs and deliver technical training programs for machine operators and technicians.
    • Develop and maintain training materials and documentation to support ongoing skill development.
  • Design & Engineering
    • Contribute to the design and development of PET containers, including preform and mold design.
    • Work with injection and blow molding equipment, ensuring optimal tooling and process parameters for high-quality output.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development, engineering, or project management within the packaging or plastics industry.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of PET container design and manufacturing.
    • Hands-on experience with injection and blow molding equipment, including tooling and mold design.
    • Proficiency in ISBM processing (1-step and 2-step platforms).
    • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
