Production Manager - Flake Operations

A leading manufacturer in the recycled plastics and sustainable packaging industry is seeking a Production Manager to oversee its Flake Operations team. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective production of high-quality rPET flake, supporting both operational excellence and environmental responsibility.
About the Role
The Production Manager will lead a team of approximately 59 hourly employees, one specialist, and one exempt engineer. This position plays a key role in driving performance, safety, and continuous improvement across the flake production process.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Flake department to meet production, quality, and safety targets
- Supervise and develop direct reports, ensuring alignment with site and organizational goals
- Enforce safety protocols and maintain a culture of safety and accountability
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, downtime, and customer complaints
- Ensure proper material handling, storage, and recordkeeping in compliance with quality standards
- Collaborate with maintenance, logistics, and quality teams to optimize operational flow
- Provide regular performance updates to site leadership
- Support hiring, training, and performance management in coordination with HR
- Coach supervisors on team management, attendance, and policy adherence
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred (Engineering or Technical discipline)
- 5+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in plastics or recycling
- Strong understanding of material flow, production scheduling, and safety management
- Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate cross-functionally
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; SAP experience preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable
Work Environment & Compliance
- Adherence to Quality Management Systems (QMS) and safety standards
- Use of PPE and enforcement of housekeeping protocols
- Participation in audits, inspections, and ongoing training initiatives
