Sr Electrical Engineer
Overview
Responsible for improving electrical reliability across the mill by identifying and resolving issues, strengthening high‑ and medium‑voltage system performance, supporting outage planning, and collaborating with Maintenance, Production, Leadership, Corporate Reliability, contractors, and SMEs to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations in a complex manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of critical electrical systems across the mill, including high‑ and medium‑voltage infrastructure.
- Manage and troubleshoot systems such as power distribution networks, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, motors, UPS systems, VFDs, grounding systems, lighting, and portable equipment.
- Lead safety, reliability, and uptime improvements through technical guidance, system audits, failure analysis, and engineered redesigns.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, including infrared inspections, vibration analysis, breaker testing, and relay protection validation.
- Support mill outage planning-scoping electrical work, coordinating contractors, and ensuring safe energization/de‑energization of HV/MV equipment.
- Conduct root cause analyses (RCA) for electrical failures and drive long‑term corrective actions tied to reliability KPIs.
- Provide training to maintenance and operations personnel on safe electrical work practices, high‑ and medium‑voltage procedures, and NFPA 70E compliance.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure electrical systems support production goals and capital improvements.
- Maintain current knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NETA, IEEE, and OEM standards to guide safe and compliant electrical system operation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong expertise in transformers, power supplies, three‑phase power distribution, AC/DC motors, protection schemes, and high‑/medium‑voltage equipment (5kV-34.5kV).
- Experience with PLCs, instrumentation, and CMMS platforms (SAP, JDE).
- Working knowledge of relay coordination, arc flash analysis, and electrical safety programs (preferred).
- Hands‑on experience troubleshooting electrical issues in fast‑paced production settings, including equipment reliability, maintenance planning, and system optimization.
