As the organization continues to expand its presence within power generation, electrical distribution, and critical power markets, the company is seeking a highly technical Switchgear Application Specialist to support customers, field service teams, and internal stakeholders across its product portfolio.
Position Overview
The Switchgear Application Specialist serves as a technical expert for low and medium voltage power distribution systems, supporting commissioning, troubleshooting, product application, and field service activities. This individual will work closely with customers, engineering, service, manufacturing, and sales teams to ensure successful deployment and operation of electrical infrastructure solutions.
This role is ideal for a technically strong professional with experience in switchgear, critical power, backup power systems, and electrical distribution who enjoys solving complex operational and technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for low and medium voltage switchgear, transfer switches, and power distribution equipment.
- Support commissioning, startup, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
- Serve as an escalation point for field service teams and customers on complex technical issues.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and develop corrective action recommendations.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve field issues and improve product performance.
- Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and customer witness testing.
- Develop and review Methods of Procedure (MOPs), technical documentation, and troubleshooting guides.
- Provide technical training and product support to customers, distributors, and internal personnel.
- Interpret electrical drawings, control schematics, one-line diagrams, and equipment specifications.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by documenting field findings and recommending enhancements.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors and service partners when required.
- Travel as necessary to support customers and field operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience supporting, commissioning, troubleshooting, servicing, or applying electrical power distribution equipment.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Low Voltage (LV) Switchgear
- Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear
- Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- Power Distribution Systems
- Backup Power Systems
- Electrical Control Systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, protection drawings, and power system diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Customer-facing experience within a technical or field-service environment.
- Authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the electrical infrastructure, power management, critical power, or switchgear industry.
- Hands-on commissioning or field service background.
- Experience supporting data centers, utilities, industrial facilities, healthcare, or mission-critical environments.
- Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, protective relays, and control systems.
- Strong customer support and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating cross-functionally.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 5-10+ years of experience in electrical distribution, switchgear, or critical power systems.
- Strong technical understanding of LV/MV power distribution equipment.
- Experience supporting commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and service activities.
- Ability to confidently interact with customers, contractors, consulting engineers, and service teams.
- Proven track record solving complex technical issues in the field.
- Background with electrical OEMs, switchgear manufacturers, critical power providers, or power systems integrators.
