About the Opportunity
A growing provider of electrical power infrastructure and critical power solutions is seeking a Switchgear Applications Specialist to serve as a technical subject matter expert supporting customers, field service teams, engineering, and commercial stakeholders throughout North America.
This role is focused on the application, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical support of low and medium voltage electrical distribution systems within mission-critical and industrial environments. The position offers a blend of field-based problem solving, customer interaction, and collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in power distribution equipment and enjoy working directly with customers to solve complex operational and electrical challenges.
Position Summary
The Switchgear Applications Specialist serves as the primary technical resource for customers and internal teams on electrical distribution products, including switchgear, transfer switches, control systems, and backup power solutions.
This individual will support field commissioning, startup activities, troubleshooting efforts, technical training, and product application reviews while helping ensure reliable performance of critical electrical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for low and medium voltage electrical distribution equipment.
- Support product commissioning, startup, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex field service and customer support issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective action recommendations.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and service teams to resolve technical challenges.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and customer witness testing activities.
- Review and develop technical documentation, methods of procedure (MOPs), startup plans, and troubleshooting guides.
- Deliver technical training and product education to customers, channel partners, service providers, and internal teams.
- Interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, control schematics, and system specifications.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by documenting field findings and recommending product enhancements.
- Coordinate with third-party contractors, system integrators, and service providers as required.
- Travel to customer facilities to support field operations and project execution.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- 5+ years of experience supporting, commissioning, troubleshooting, servicing, or applying electrical power distribution equipment.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Low Voltage (LV) Switchgear
- Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear
- Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- Power Distribution Equipment
- Backup Power Systems
- Electrical Control Systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, protection drawings, wiring diagrams, and power system documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing abilities.
- Experience supporting customers in industrial, utility, commercial, or mission-critical environments.
- Ability to travel throughout the assigned region.
