Position Overview
A leading steel and tube manufacturing organization is seeking an Area Manager, Quality to oversee all plant quality functions and ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry requirements. This individual will lead quality assurance and quality control initiatives, manage quality personnel, drive continuous improvement efforts, and serve as a key liaison with customers, suppliers, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure product quality meets customer specifications and industry standards.
- Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the plant's Quality Management System (QMS).
- Oversee quality control inspections, testing, and surveillance activities.
- Manage, coach, develop, and evaluate QA/QC personnel.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives and corrective/preventive action programs.
- Make critical decisions regarding product quality issues, customer concerns, and non-conformance investigations.
- Reduce operational costs associated with quality-related issues and defects.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and third-party inspection agencies.
- Manage supplier quality audits, production capability assessments, and supplier development activities.
- Maintain non-conformance reporting systems and lead root cause investigations.
- Support customer visits, plant audits, and facility tours.
- Coordinate quality initiatives across manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, maintenance, sales, and operations teams.
- Establish and monitor quality objectives, benchmarks, and key performance indicators.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and management system requirements.
- Conduct and oversee internal audits and support external certification and customer audits.
- Provide regular reporting and recommendations to plant leadership regarding quality performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline required; advanced degree preferred. Equivalent industry experience may be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in Quality Management within OCTG, tubular products, pipe, tube, steel manufacturing, or a similar heavy industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of quality systems, continuous improvement methodologies, and quality planning processes.
- Experience interpreting and translating technical customer specifications and requirements.
- Project management experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of API, ASTM, ASME, or other applicable industry standards.
- Experience with SAP, Microsoft Office, and manufacturing business systems.
- Strong understanding of tubular manufacturing processes and steel production operations.
- Technical expertise in material testing, inspection, quality assurance, and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
- Knowledge of raw materials used in steel and tube manufacturing.
- Experience supporting new product development and product qualification activities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven leadership, team development, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively present complex technical information to a variety of audiences.
