Automation Project Manager | Warehouse Automation & Solution Design

The Opportunity

An international logistics organisation is looking for an Automation Project Manager to join a growing team focused on developing the next generation of automated warehouse solutions.

This is a highly visible role sitting at the intersection of automation, solution design and commercial development. You'll work on complex logistics projects across multiple markets, helping determine how technologies such as robotics, automated storage, conveying and other intralogistics systems can deliver stronger operational and financial performance.

Rather than simply implementing predefined solutions, you'll have the opportunity to shape automation concepts from an early stage, influence major customer proposals and work with leading automation technology providers across Europe.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design and evaluate automated warehouse and intralogistics concepts for new and existing operations.
  • Partner with Solution Design, Engineering and Commercial teams on complex customer opportunities.
  • Assess different automation technologies and determine the best solution based on operational requirements, scalability and ROI.
  • Support the sizing, modelling and validation of automated solutions.
  • Build robust business cases considering CAPEX, OPEX, productivity and return on investment.
  • Review and challenge technical proposals from automation suppliers and system integrators.
  • Participate in customer presentations and help communicate the operational and commercial value of proposed solutions.
  • Work with international teams to share automation knowledge, successful concepts and lessons learned.
  • Support and mentor colleagues involved in automation projects across different markets.
  • Build relationships with automation suppliers, technology companies and system integrators.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and identify new solutions that could improve warehouse performance.
  • Contribute to the development of tools, methodologies and engineering standards for future automation projects.

What Makes the Opportunity Interesting

This is not a traditional project management position.

You'll become a key technical voice for warehouse automation, with exposure to projects across multiple countries and the opportunity to influence how automation is incorporated into future logistics solutions.

You can expect:

  • Exposure to large-scale and technically complex automation projects
  • International scope and regular collaboration with teams across Europe
  • Direct involvement in major customer tenders and new business opportunities
  • Exposure to leading automation technologies and system integrators
  • A combination of technical engineering, commercial solution design and innovation
  • Significant autonomy to evaluate technologies and challenge conventional approaches
  • The opportunity to influence how automation capability develops across a growing international organisation

Your Background

We're particularly interested in candidates with approximately 3 to 10 years of experience across warehouse automation, intralogistics or automated solution design.

You could currently be working for a 3PL, logistics operator, system integrator, automation provider or consultancy.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • An engineering degree or comparable technical background
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse automation and intralogistics technologies
  • Experience designing, sizing or evaluating automated logistics solutions
  • Understanding of logistics flows and warehouse operations
  • Experience working with automation suppliers and/or system integrators
  • Commercial awareness around CAPEX, OPEX and ROI
  • Experience supporting complex tenders or customer solutions
  • Exposure to international projects
  • Knowledge of simulation or flow-modelling tools would be advantageous
  • AutoCAD experience would be beneficial but is not essential

About You

You'll enjoy this opportunity if you're someone who is:

  • Technically curious and passionate about automation
  • Comfortable challenging engineering concepts and supplier proposals
  • Commercially minded rather than purely technical
  • Confident presenting ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Comfortable working autonomously across multiple projects
  • Collaborative and able to influence teams without direct authority
  • Interested in emerging automation technologies and how they can be applied in real-world logistics environments
