About the Role

A leading organisation in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector is seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Direct Procurement to lead global procurement activities across key direct categories. This includes Raw Materials (such as solvents, nutrients, reagents, gases, filtration aids, and resins), Product Filters, Manufacturing Services, and Laboratory Testing & Services.

This pivotal role will be based in Budapest, with responsibilities extending across multiple international sites, including Copenhagen. Occasional travel is expected.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead global sourcing and procurement strategies for direct materials, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Manage and mentor a team of procurement professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Act as the subject matter expert and key business partner for direct procurement within the global procurement function.
  • Ensure continuity and sustainability of supply for direct materials used in development and manufacturing.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders in Legal, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams.
  • Drive supplier relationship management, including performance evaluation, dispute resolution, and contract negotiations.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, GxP regulations, and local laws.
  • Lead strategic initiatives including cost savings, supplier development, and risk mitigation.
  • Develop and implement category strategies, supplier KPIs, and proactive contract management.
  • Maintain detailed spend analysis and drive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) improvements.

Candidate Profile

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • 5-10 years of experience in a similar procurement leadership role within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong understanding of supply chain processes in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience managing teams and leading cross-functional initiatives
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Deep knowledge of cGMP and pharmaceutical regulatory requirements
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
