Position Summary
Our Client, a large multi-site food manufacturing organization specializing in poultry processing, is seeking an Environmental Manager to lead environmental compliance and sustainability programs across a complex network of production, distribution, agricultural, and support operations. This role partners closely with site leadership to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and support environmentally responsible operations across multiple facilities.
The Environmental Manager serves as the site's primary environmental subject matter expert and works collaboratively with operations, maintenance, engineering, and corporate leadership to maintain environmental compliance and improve overall environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage environmental compliance programs in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Oversee required environmental reporting, permit compliance activities, recordkeeping, and regulatory submissions.
- Implement and maintain environmental management programs across multiple operational facilities.
- Monitor environmental performance metrics and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Partner with facility leadership to ensure compliance with company environmental standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and assessments to identify compliance gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Develop, track, and verify completion of corrective and preventive action plans.
- Coordinate environmental compliance activities performed by external consultants, contractors, and service providers.
- Provide environmental guidance and support to operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams.
- Deliver environmental training programs and ensure employees understand their environmental responsibilities.
- Manage environmental permits, renewals, modifications, and related documentation.
- Monitor regulatory developments and communicate potential impacts to facility leadership.
- Lead investigations and root cause analyses related to environmental incidents and compliance concerns.
- Support emergency response, spill prevention, remediation efforts, and environmental incident management activities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact during environmental inspections and interactions with regulatory agencies.
- Promote environmental best practices and drive ongoing improvements in compliance programs, reporting processes, and training initiatives.
- Collaborate with wastewater and operational teams to ensure compliance with environmental and treatment system requirements.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Chemistry, Occupational Safety, or a related technical field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of environmental compliance, environmental management, manufacturing, or related industrial experience.
- Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing permits, regulatory reporting, inspections, and environmental compliance programs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and environmental data management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated project management, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to analyze complex compliance issues, prioritize competing responsibilities, and implement effective solutions.
- Experience conducting audits, investigations, and corrective action programs is preferred.
- Ability to travel periodically between facilities as needed.
Preferred Industry Background
Candidates with experience supporting food and beverage manufacturing, consumer products manufacturing, agricultural processing, industrial operations, or other highly regulated production environments are strongly encouraged to apply.
