European Transport Manager
About the Role
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Senior Transportation Manager to lead and optimize our client's transportation operations across Europe. Based near Amsterdam, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable movement of goods from our manufacturing facilities to customers and distribution centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement transportation strategies aligned with business goals, focusing on cost reduction, service improvement, and sustainability.
- Carrier & Vendor Management: Negotiate contracts, manage relationships, and monitor performance of third-party logistics providers and carriers.
- Operational Oversight: Oversee daily transportation activities including inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies.
- Process Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements using data analytics, KPIs, and lean methodologies.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of transportation coordinators and logistics specialists.
- Budget & Cost Control: Manage transportation budgets, analyze spend, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Technology & Systems: Leverage TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and ERP platforms to enhance visibility and control.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing, warehousing, customer service, and procurement teams to ensure seamless logistics operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field (Master's preferred).
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in transportation or logistics management, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of European transportation regulations, customs, and compliance.
- Proven experience with TMS, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and data analytics tools.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Fluent in English; Dutch or other European languages are a plus.
