Head of Safety, Health & Environment

Location: Remote (Future Relocation to East Coast or Midwest Manufacturing Site)

Compensation: $155,700 - $181,650 + Bonus

A global life sciences manufacturing organization is seeking a Head of Safety, Health & Environment to lead all environmental, health, safety, sustainability, and security initiatives for a major U.S. growth investment. This individual will play a critical role in developing a new manufacturing operation, supporting everything from site selection and facility design through commissioning, start-up, and long-term operations.

This is a highly visible leadership position that will partner closely with executive leadership, engineering, operations, quality, and project teams to build world-class EHS systems and ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all environmental, health, safety, sustainability, and security programs for a major U.S. expansion initiative.
• Develop and implement EHS strategies that ensure regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and environmental stewardship.
• Support site selection, facility design, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for Process Safety Management (PSM) and risk management programs.
• Lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), HAZOP studies, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
• Partner with engineering and project teams to ensure EHS requirements are incorporated into capital projects and facility expansions.
• Drive sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across the organization.
• Lead regulatory inspections, compliance assessments, and audit activities.
• Develop risk mitigation strategies for new processes, equipment, and operational changes.
• Build and promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in EHS, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Experience supporting capital projects, greenfield developments, facility start-ups, or large-scale expansion projects.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Process Safety Management, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, and sustainability programs.
• Experience implementing and managing EHS programs in GMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
• Hands-on experience with PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, MOC, and process risk management methodologies.
• Proven ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams across engineering, operations, manufacturing, quality, and project management functions.
• Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
• Ability and willingness to relocate to a future manufacturing site as the project progresses.
• Ability to travel approximately 25-30%.
