Head of Maintenance (M/F/D)
Overview
A leading international automotive manufacturer is seeking an experienced Head of Maintenance to lead and further develop its maintenance function at a key production facility.
This is a strategic leadership position with responsibility for a team of approximately 40 maintenance professionals, overseeing reliability, asset performance, continuous improvement initiatives, and the ongoing development of maintenance processes across the site.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with proven leadership experience, ensuring maximum equipment availability, driving TPM initiatives, and supporting world-class manufacturing performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop a maintenance organisation of approximately 40 employees
- Provide both disciplinary and technical leadership to the maintenance department
- Drive recruitment, training, succession planning and employee development
- Ensure rapid and effective troubleshooting of production equipment and manufacturing systems
- Define and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to maximise equipment availability
- Oversee spare parts strategy and inventory management based on equipment criticality and failure risk
- Continuously improve maintenance planning, scheduling and execution processes
- Monitor and manage external contractors and service providers
- Analyse maintenance KPIs including MTTR, MTBF and unplanned downtime data
- Conduct Pareto analyses and implement corrective action plans to improve reliability
- Manage departmental budgets and ensure achievement of cost, quality and performance targets
- Ensure maintenance activities are completed in accordance with defined system parameters and production requirements
- Interpret and utilise technical documentation including electrical, mechanical, installation and maintenance drawings
- Lead the implementation and further development of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives
- Drive continuous improvement projects across maintenance and production support functions
Your Profile
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Head of Maintenance, Maintenance Manager or similar leadership position
- Proven experience managing large maintenance teams within an industrial manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of preventive, predictive and reliability-centred maintenance methodologies
- Experience working with maintenance KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR and OEE
- Demonstrated success in implementing TPM and continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical and automation systems
- Experience within the automotive industry is highly desirable
- Fluent German and English language skills
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management abilities
