Commodity Manager - Mechanical
Reports to: Director of Sourcing
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and execute long‑term sourcing strategies to meet cost, quality, and delivery targets.
- Assess current and potential suppliers, including capabilities, capacity, technology adoption, and operational performance.
- Lead annual cost‑reduction and productivity initiatives that support company growth and financial objectives.
- Create commodity strategies and business plans aligned to organizational priorities.
- Engage suppliers early in new product development activities to improve manufacturability, quality, and lead times.
- Implement and manage sourcing tools, KPIs, and processes to enhance supplier performance and organizational efficiency.
Core Competencies
Mechanical & Technical Expertise
- Deep understanding of machining, CNC processes, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, castings, tooling, materials, and GD&T.
- Ability to interpret and challenge complex mechanical drawings and technical specifications.
Supplier Management & Negotiation
- Strong negotiation skills for contracts, pricing, supplier agreements, and issue resolution.
- Demonstrated success in driving continuous improvement and measurable cost savings.
Analytical & Systems Skills
- Proficient in market analysis, cost modeling, and risk assessment.
- Strong proficiency with Excel and Power BI for analytics and reporting.
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Skilled in presenting to senior leadership and managing projects across multiple sites.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Strong decision‑making skills and a results‑driven mindset.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience managing mechanical commodities or complex mechanical assemblies.
- Strong computer skills, including SAP and Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience in the Aerospace & Defense sector is preferred.
