Process Engineer
A U.S.-based advanced materials company is seeking a Process Engineer with expertise in strip casting metal alloys. This role supports the development and optimization of processes related to rare earth magnet production, particularly focusing on cleaning and coating techniques. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with vacuum induction melting, alloying technologies, and a strong background in failure analysis and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strip casting processes for Neodymium (rare earth) magnets.
- Implement process monitoring and control systems to ensure optimal casting conditions and consistent flake thickness/microstructure.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to operate and optimize strip casting units.
- Troubleshoot equipment and process issues; conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Provide technical support and training on coating techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
- Lead initiatives in process improvement, defect reduction, and fault diagnostics.
- Define casting parameters, machine settings, and quality standards to meet production and customer requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in process engineering focused on alloying and casting.
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC) in industrial manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of metal melting in inert environments, strip casting, or melt spinning.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis tools (e.g., Six Sigma, DOE, Root Cause Analysis).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in powder manufacturing, processing, or powder metallurgy.
- Practical understanding of process safety in metal powder environments.
- Experience with SAP or similar enterprise systems.
- Ability to identify and solve problems effectively and influence stakeholders across all levels.
