Our client is hiring a Procurement Specialist to support a large industrial plant in the Joppa, IL region. This position manages end‑to‑end procurement for equipment, raw materials, and third‑party services, ensuring strong process controls, competitive sourcing, and accuracy in all purchase activity.
What You'll Do
You'll serve as the primary procurement partner for the Joppa plant, responsible for all purchasing activity and compliance with procurement processes. Key responsibilities include:
Procurement Operations
- Manage the full lifecycle of purchase requisitions and purchase orders for all plant needs - materials, equipment, and third‑party services.
- Execute competitive quoting, vendor selection, and negotiation for all spend categories.
- Validate pricing, terms, inbound logistics, and contract alignment before issuing POs.
- Ensure strict adherence to procurement policies, with no shortcuts in process or documentation.
Business Partnership
- Work closely with plant leadership, maintenance, inventory teams, and other internal stakeholders to anticipate procurement needs.
- Support smaller satellite sites with procurement coordination as required.
- Proactively communicate order status, supplier performance, and process updates.
Cost Management & Strategy
- Evaluate all spend to identify cost‑savings opportunities.
- Challenge bids constructively and ensure competitive pricing for all materials and services.
- Ensure spend accuracy, contract compliance, and performance tracking.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of procurement experience (operations procurement, sourcing, category support, or similar).
- Strong negotiation skills and comfort managing high‑dollar spend.
- Ability to manage multiple procurement categories including raw materials, equipment, and service contracts.
- Experience working with internal stakeholders who may be accustomed to "informal" purchasing - and the ability to guide them into compliant processes.
- Strong communication and the confidence to challenge, question, and drive accountability.
- SAP experience preferred (not required).
- Adaptability, proactive thinking, and the ability to take ownership of plant‑level procurement.
