A growing manufacturing organization in the Charlotte area is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead procurement transformation initiatives while overseeing strategic sourcing, supplier management, and purchasing operations. This role is ideal for a leader who has successfully driven process improvements, implemented best practices, and elevated procurement organizations from a transactional function to a strategic business partner.
Reporting into Supply Chain leadership, the Purchasing Manager will be responsible for developing sourcing strategies, improving supplier performance, optimizing procurement processes, and building a high-performing team. The organization is looking for a change agent who can challenge the status quo, drive continuous improvement, and leverage SAP to create greater visibility, efficiency, and scalability across the procurement function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all purchasing and sourcing activities for the facility and broader business operations.
- Drive procurement transformation initiatives, including process standardization, supplier rationalization, and operational improvements.
- Develop and execute strategic sourcing strategies that support growth, cost reduction, and risk mitigation objectives.
- Build strong supplier partnerships while leading negotiations, contract management, and supplier performance reviews.
- Identify and implement cost savings opportunities across direct and indirect spend categories.
- Partner closely with operations, planning, engineering, and finance to improve cross-functional alignment and supply continuity.
- Analyze procurement data and spend trends to support strategic decision-making.
- Lead inventory and material flow optimization efforts to improve service levels and working capital performance.
- Utilize SAP to manage procurement operations, reporting, supplier data, and process execution.
- Establish KPIs, performance metrics, and procurement best practices that drive accountability and continuous improvement.
- Mentor, coach, and develop purchasing team members while fostering a culture of ownership and operational excellence.
- Lead change management initiatives and drive adoption of new tools, processes, and procurement methodologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of purchasing, procurement, or strategic sourcing experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Prior leadership experience managing teams and driving organizational change.
- Demonstrated success leading procurement transformation, process improvement, or operational excellence initiatives.
- Strong supplier negotiation, contract management, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience managing both direct and indirect spend.
- SAP experience is required.
- Strong analytical and business acumen with the ability to influence stakeholders across the organization.
- Lean, Six Sigma, CPSM, or APICS certifications are a plus.
