Our Client is seeking a Safety Specialist to support the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety programs at a large-scale industrial Lithium mining and processing operation in Northern Nevada. This position will work closely with site leadership to strengthen a proactive safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and support safe daily operations throughout construction, commissioning, and ongoing production activities.
The facility includes complex chemical and mineral processing operations involving materials handling, chemical processing, mechanical systems, and industrial manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and leadership skills and have experience driving safety performance in OSHA and/or MSHA-regulated environments.
This position will be based in Northern Nevada and reports directly to site safety leadership. Limited travel to project sites, vendor locations, and other company facilities may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site safety programs and daily health and safety initiatives.
- Partner with site leadership, supervisors, and department managers to promote a culture centered on safety excellence and accountability.
- Participate in safety committees and assist with site-wide safety improvement initiatives.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and field observations to identify hazards, verify compliance, and support safe work practices.
- Deliver and coordinate required regulatory safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors while maintaining accurate training records.
- Perform hazard assessments and risk evaluations for new materials, processes, and operational changes.
- Assist with industrial hygiene initiatives, including occupational exposure monitoring and related compliance programs.
- Review and manage high-risk work permits, including confined space entry, lockout/tagout, hot work, and excavation activities.
- Support personal protective equipment (PPE) and energy isolation programs to ensure proper equipment availability, maintenance, and use.
- Coordinate safety orientation and onboarding programs for contractors, vendors, and site visitors.
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis efforts, and corrective action implementation.
- Develop action plans and recommendations to address identified safety concerns and improve overall site performance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects focused on reducing risk and enhancing workplace safety.
- Maintain required safety records, reports, and regulatory compliance documentation.
- Build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization while promoting company values and operational excellence.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 2 to 4 years of safety experience within chemical manufacturing, mining, mineral processing, heavy industrial, energy, refining, or similar industrial environments.
- EMT, First Responder, or related emergency response certification is a plus.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and/or MSHA regulations required.
- Experience supporting Process Safety Management (PSM) programs or operations is preferred.
- Strong incident investigation, hazard recognition, risk assessment, and safety training experience.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to influence safety performance and build effective working relationships throughout a diverse workforce.
