Senior Process Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to join a Process Technology and Project Development team within a large-scale industrial manufacturing environment. This role will provide technical leadership across process optimization, capital projects, operational support, and process safety initiatives.

The Senior Process Engineer will use strong chemical and process engineering expertise to identify improvement opportunities, solve complex production challenges, and develop solutions that enhance safety, reliability, efficiency, and overall operating performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead process engineering and design activities in support of capital projects.
  • Identify, develop, and implement process improvements that enhance operational performance and competitiveness.
  • Troubleshoot complex production and process issues using structured root cause analysis techniques.
  • Provide process engineering expertise and day-to-day technical support to plant operations.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, project teams, and site leadership to execute improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in Process Safety Management activities, including Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), Process Safety Information (PSI), Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), and Mechanical Integrity (MI).
  • Support project development activities including option evaluation, economic analysis, process design basis development, P&IDs, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Monitor relevant industry developments, technologies, and engineering practices to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Apply strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills in a collaborative team environment.
  • Maintain a continuous-learning mindset and develop new technical capabilities as business and operational needs evolve.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience within refining, chemical processing, or a closely related industrial process environment.
  • Hands-on knowledge of industrial process equipment, including pumps, compressors, fractionation equipment, heat exchangers, and fired equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and optimizing industrial processes and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of process control fundamentals.
  • Experience supporting capital projects and process design activities, including option selection, economic evaluation, design basis development, P&IDs, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Experience utilizing process simulation software and performing hydraulic calculations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience within refining or chemical processing environments.
  • Experience supporting hydroprocessing operations and/or industrial utility systems.
  • Knowledge of process economics and the ability to incorporate economic considerations into project evaluations.
  • Experience with agile approaches to project execution, process improvements, or operational experimentation.
  • Experience with Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA), and/or Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
  • Familiarity with API 520/521 relief system design standards.
  • Experience supporting major plant turnaround activities, including procedure development, chemical cleaning, catalyst selection, and catalyst loading.
