Senior Purchasing Manager
Position Overview
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing all procurement activities for construction projects, ensuring materials, equipment, and services are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with project timelines. This role plays a critical part in vendor management, contract negotiations, and maintaining supply chain continuity to support project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement procurement strategies to support construction projects and company growth
- Source, evaluate, and select suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to optimize cost savings and quality
- Manage purchasing budgets and track expenditures across multiple projects
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and engineering teams to forecast material needs
- Issue purchase orders and ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to delays, quality, or cost overruns
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors and identify new sourcing opportunities
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Analyze market trends, pricing, and supply risks to make informed purchasing decisions
- Maintain accurate procurement records, contracts, and documentation
- Lead and mentor purchasing/procurement staff (if applicable)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Construction Management, or related field
- 5+ years of procurement or purchasing experience, preferably in construction or a related industry
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and subcontracting processes
- Proven experience negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships
- Experience with ERP or procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Procore, etc.)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) or CPSM certification
- Experience working with large-scale commercial or industrial construction projects
- Familiarity with cost estimation and project budgeting
