Senior R&D Project Engineer

Position Summary

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading the technical execution of engineering projects from concept through delivery. This role oversees all design, validation, and technical aspects of projects to ensure compliance with customer specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards. The position provides technical leadership, mentors engineering team members, and partners with project management and technical services teams to drive successful project outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical transition of projects from the sales phase through project execution and post-sale support.
  • Develop project risk assessments and establish mitigation and contingency strategies.
  • Define, issue, and manage engineering work orders in alignment with project requirements and schedules.
  • Oversee engineering design activities and review progress to ensure compliance with technical, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Provide advanced technical support during project implementation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Collaborate with Project Management and Technical Services teams to develop and execute product validation plans.
  • Evaluate validation results and provide recommendations regarding product performance and acceptance.
  • Lead design reviews to ensure adherence to engineering standards, best practices, and customer expectations.
  • Present technical findings, project updates, and engineering solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to support professional development.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering processes, product performance, and project execution.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or a combination of equivalent education and relevant experience.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical activities across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide technical direction when required.

Preferred

  • 6+ years of experience in equipment design, industrial machinery, converting equipment systems, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience utilizing advanced engineering software for design, analysis, modeling, and documentation.
  • Background in product validation, risk assessment, and engineering project execution.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Frequent sitting, use of hands and fingers, and verbal communication.
  • Occasional standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching overhead.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20-25% as required for business needs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must possess adequate visual acuity, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Work may occasionally involve exposure to moving mechanical equipment, elevated work areas, airborne particles, industrial manufacturing environments, and electrical equipment.
  • Noise levels are generally moderate but may be elevated when working in manufacturing or production facilities.
