As a Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading and contributing to the creation of innovative electronic solutions that meet the needs of both the company and its clients.
Functions & Responsibilities:
Design and Development: Lead the design and development of electronics-based products, ranging from simple hardware solutions to complex embedded systems.
Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical lead on projects, defining development activities, and directing team members to ensure project milestones are met.
Project Management: Collaborate with Program Managers to estimate development efforts, plan project schedules, and maintain project timelines.
Design Strategy: Work with cross-functional teams to establish product requirements and develop design strategies that optimize performance, cost, and resource efficiency.
Specification and Documentation: Develop detailed product specifications, create schematics, and oversee PCB layout designs.
Hardware Debugging: Lead the testing and debugging efforts during the initial hardware bring-up phase.
Verification and Validation: Establish and execute design verification tests to ensure product functionality and reliability.
Production Support: Define production test requirements to ensure product quality and manufacturability.
Documentation: Document design concepts, specifications, and instructions according to company standards.
Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a subject matter expert in electronics and electronics-based product design within the organization.
Process Improvement: Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to enhance departmental processes and tools related to electronics product development.
Mentorship: Mentor other engineering team members to foster skill development and promote best practices in design.
Job Requirements:
Experience: Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing custom electronics and electronics-based systems, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience (15+ years preferred).
Leadership Skills: Strong communication and technical leadership skills to effectively interface with clients and lead technical teams through project execution.
Design Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in electronic design using analog and digital components, including circuit design, component selection, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
Manufacturing Knowledge: Familiarity with electronics manufacturing processes, assembly techniques (SMT, thru-hole), and Design for Manufacturing/Design for Testability (DFM/DFT) considerations.
Software Skills: Ability to program in C/C++ for microcontrollers and embedded processors as required by project needs.
Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO, UL, IEC) impacting electronics design.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
