We are seeking a Trade Compliance & Customs Specialist to join our client's team near Amsterdam. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with international trade regulations and managing customs activities to facilitate the smooth flow of goods across borders. This role requires a keen understanding of import/export regulations, tariff classifications, and customs procedures, as well as strong analytical and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement trade compliance strategies to ensure adherence to international trade regulations and customs laws.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks related to trade compliance.
- Classify products according to harmonized tariff codes and maintain accurate records of tariff classifications for import/export activities.
- Manage import/export documentation, including customs declarations, certificates of origin, and export licenses, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with customs authorities and government agencies to obtain necessary permits, clearances, and approvals for international shipments.
- Provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders on trade compliance matters, including tariff classification, valuation, and country of origin requirements.
- Monitor changes in trade regulations and assess the impact on the company's operations, providing recommendations for compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including logistics, procurement, and legal departments, to streamline import/export processes and resolve compliance issues.
- Assist in the resolution of customs-related inquiries, investigations, and audits, maintaining a proactive approach to compliance management.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in trade compliance, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the organization.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in trade compliance, customs operations, or related roles.
- Strong knowledge of international trade regulations, including EU customs laws, import/export controls, and sanctions regulations.
- Proficiency in tariff classification, customs valuation, and customs documentation requirements.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and assess compliance risks.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluency in English.
