Director of EHS

A leading manufacturing organization is seeking a Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) to provide strategic leadership for environmental compliance, workplace safety, regulatory programs, and risk management across multiple operations. This position serves as the senior leader responsible for developing and executing EHS strategies that protect employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and support operational excellence.

The Director of EHS will partner closely with executive leadership and site teams to strengthen safety culture, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop EHS teams while fostering a culture focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Develop and implement environmental, health, and safety strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
• Monitor and improve EHS performance through KPI tracking, audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Oversee environmental compliance programs, including air, water, waste, chemical management, permitting, and regulatory reporting.
• Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, permitting activities, and compliance matters.
• Lead incident investigations, corrective action programs, and risk reduction initiatives.
• Provide oversight of safety training programs, employee engagement initiatives, and contractor compliance activities.
• Manage workers' compensation and return-to-work programs while supporting overall risk management efforts.
• Track regulatory developments and implement proactive changes to maintain compliance and minimize business risk.
• Partner with operational leadership to identify and eliminate workplace hazards while improving environmental and safety performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or related environment.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, environmental permitting, air quality, water compliance, hazardous waste management, and regulatory systems.
• Experience managing environmental compliance programs and interfacing directly with regulatory agencies.
• Experience leading workers' compensation, incident management, and safety improvement programs.
• Demonstrated success leading teams and driving safety culture transformation across multiple locations or business units.
• Strong communication, project management, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to balance strategic initiatives with hands-on support of site operations and compliance activities.
