Overview
The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities while also supporting ongoing account management activities. This role involves prospecting, client engagement, contract development, and cross‑department collaboration to ensure client satisfaction and operational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a targeted contact list to support new business growth within the assigned market or territory
- Conduct daily outreach, including telemarketing, cold calling, and written communication, to generate new business opportunities
- Design and prepare contracts, including scope of work development, assumptions, operational plans, and pricing for new business proposals
- Serve as a resource for addressing customer needs, including transportation solutions, rate requests, additional services, and contract interpretation
- Maintain regular communication with assigned customers, including participation in performance review meetings and providing updates on process improvements or new initiatives
- Address and resolve customer issues, concerns, and service requests
- Support account review completion, delivering results to internal leaders and assisting with customer negotiations
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, and other internal groups to ensure profitability and client satisfaction
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from a four‑year college or university
- Experience in air & ocean freight *
- Minimum 5 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least 1 year of experience managing direct reports
- Familiarity with optimization tools preferred
- Ability to travel up to 10%
