Position Title: Director, Health, Safety, and Environmental Programs

Overview:
This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the development and execution of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) strategies across the organization. The position ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, fosters a proactive safety culture, and drives continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental stewardship.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement organization-wide HSE strategies aligned with operational and strategic objectives.
  • Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and systems to support regulatory compliance and risk management.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to relevant occupational health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and site evaluations to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Develop emergency preparedness plans and safety protocols tailored to operational needs.
  • Lead HSE training initiatives to promote awareness and competency across all levels of staff.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Continuously evaluate and update HSE programs to reflect evolving best practices and regulatory changes.
  • Report key performance indicators and program outcomes to executive leadership.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to integrate HSE principles into daily operations.
  • Serve as the liaison for external audits and regulatory inspections.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering (required).
    • Advanced degree in a related discipline (preferred).
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience managing HSE programs in complex organizational settings.
  • Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong understanding of HSE regulations and industry standards.
    • Effective leadership and communication abilities.
    • Skilled in problem-solving and decision-making under pressure.
    • Proficient in standard office software and HSE management tools.
    • Ability to respond to emergencies as needed and travel occasionally to operational sites.
  • Certifications (Preferred):

    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
