The Opportunity
The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing capital projects within an industrial manufacturing environment. This role provides electrical engineering expertise and technical support to Operations and Maintenance while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
The Electrical Project Engineer manages capital and expense projects from initial concept through installation and start‑up, supporting mill objectives related to safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, and budget performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of capital projects from scope development through installation and commissioning.
- Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and cash flow forecasts.
- Coordinate engineering and design activities, including electrical design, power distribution, controls, P&IDs, piping, and structural elements.
- Review and approve detailed engineering drawings and documentation from vendors and consultants.
- Ensure projects comply with site safety and environmental standards.
- Lead project design reviews and coordinate contractors, consultants, Maintenance, and Operations.
- Oversee construction, start‑up, and equipment commissioning activities.
- Track project costs and schedules to ensure completion within approved budgets.
- Maintain accurate project documentation within the Engineering Document Control System.
- Provide electrical engineering support to resolve operational and maintenance issues.
- Promote reliability and continuous improvement practices, including RCFA and data‑driven analysis.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in an electrical engineering role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of power distribution and high‑voltage systems preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project management experience; PMP certification a plus.
- AutoCAD or drafting experience.
- Pulp and paper or heavy manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
