Job Summary

The Facilities Manager is tasked with overseeing the physical infrastructure and sub-systems of the manufacturing facility, distribution center, and administrative offices. This role encompasses strategic planning, budget oversight, regulatory compliance, and facility upkeep.

Scope and Accountability

  • Develops comprehensive plans for physical infrastructure and sub-systems.
  • Manages utility service contractors.
  • Ensures adherence to local, state, federal, and company regulations.
  • Oversees capital projects related to the facility's infrastructure, with budgets exceeding $3MM.
  • Supervises utilities technicians.
  • Ensures efficient operation of utilities systems (e.g., steam, refrigeration, compressed air).

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintains facilities and grounds in accordance with AIB/FDA standards.
  • Manages relationships with facilities contractors, including selection and performance evaluation.
  • Oversees facility projects and contractors.
  • Ensures maintenance, operation, reliability, and efficiency of critical infrastructure equipment (e.g., power distribution, HVAC, refrigeration, steam generation, building and grounds, fire systems, compressed air).
  • Provides technical support and troubleshooting for all facility systems.
  • Develops and maintains master plans, project scopes, budgets, timelines, and success criteria for facilities projects.
  • Executes facilities-related capital projects.
  • Trains local technician personnel on relevant policies and procedures.
  • Manages budgets and ensures cost-effectiveness.
  • Participates in environmental and sustainability initiatives as a subject matter expert for utility systems.
  • Engages in process improvement teams and other Continuous Improvement initiatives as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

  • BS/A Degree in Engineering or a related field and 6 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred background in food or pharmaceuticals; experience in an FDA-regulated facility is desired.
  • Effective collaboration skills across all levels, functions, and departments.
  • Experience managing projects over $300K.
  • Knowledge of EHSS (environmental, health, safety, security) requirements in a food production plant.
  • Ability to work effectively in a Union environment.
  • Experience directly supervising technicians.
  • Proficient in MS Office and AutoCAD; ERP knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Requirements

  • Must be able to work seated or standing for at least 8 hours.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.
  • Travel is required, depending on project needs.
  • Must be able to concentrate for extended periods, paying close attention to detail.
  • Generally works in a regular office environment.
  • Occasionally works in the field, which may include:
    • Climbing stairs and ladders; working from heights.
    • Exposure to vibration, moving mechanical parts, and loud noise.
    • Using protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes, hearing protection, air masks, respirators, etc.
    • Working in extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions.
    • Kneeling, bending, crouching, and climbing as required.
