A global manufacturing organization with a strong US presence is seeking a senior Environmental, Health & Safety leader to oversee company wide EHS strategy and execution. The organization operates multiple manufacturing facilities and prioritizes regulatory compliance, risk reduction, employee safety, and environmental responsibility.
The Head of EHS leads efforts to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable workplace while supporting business objectives and continuous improvement initiatives across U.S. operations.
The Head of EHS will be responsible for:
- Leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of companywide EHS programs across U.S. operations.
- Developing and executing EHS strategy, goals, and metrics aligned with corporate objectives and reporting progress to executive leadership and the board as required.
- Driving compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Minimizing occupational and environmental risk through hazard prevention, incident investigation, and training.
- Leading, mentoring, and developing EHS staff; establishing clear roles, KPIs, and development plans.
- Creating and continuously improving EHS policies, programs, and systems, including OSHA compliance, Process Safety Management (PSM), NFPA standards, and ISO 45001 alignment.
- Overseeing process hazard analysis, risk assessments, machine safety reviews, and design reviews for new equipment and capital projects.
- Leading complex incident investigations and enterprise-level root cause analysis; directing corrective action plans and monitoring effectiveness.
- Directing emergency preparedness, crisis management, and business continuity planning; serving as a senior incident commander or advisor during major events.
- Managing regulatory relationships and representing the organization with OSHA, EPA, state agencies, insurance carriers, and third‑party auditors.
- Overseeing contractor safety management and vendor compliance programs, including standards for selection, qualification, and field oversight.
- Establishing EHS metrics, dashboards, benchmarking, and reporting cadence using leading and lagging indicators.
- Championing safety culture initiatives, including employee engagement, leadership accountability, behavior‑based safety, and communications.
- Ensuring effective EHS training programs and competency frameworks across the enterprise.
- Collaborating with U.S. and global colleagues to benchmark best practices and align standards.
- Partnering with Legal, HR, Operations, Engineering, Environmental, and Insurance teams on investigations, policy frameworks, workers' compensation strategies, and return‑to‑work programs.
- Leading and supporting EHS aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and site integrations.
- Performing other duties as required.
The Head of EHS will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field (required).
- 10+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience developing and leading enterprise‑wide, multi‑site EHS programs.
- Strong knowledge of federal OSHA regulations, state regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), NFPA standards, ISO 45001, and related consensus standards.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels, including executive leadership.
- Demonstrated success improving safety performance and driving safety culture.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Willingness to travel approximately 30%.
