Fleet Manager

A leading logistics and distribution operation is seeking a skilled Manager, Fleet to oversee the maintenance and performance of its warehouse infrastructure and vehicle fleet, with a strong emphasis on refrigeration systems. This role is central to ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations across all facility and fleet assets.

This is a day-shift leadership role that requires 24/7 availability for emergency response and operational oversight. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.


Manager, Fleet Operations

The Manager of Fleet Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet and facility maintenance, fostering a team culture centered on safety, service excellence, operational efficiency, and employee engagement. This role involves managing internal staff and external vendors to ensure reliable and cost-effective operations across transportation assets and physical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily activities related to fleet, building maintenance, sanitation, refrigeration systems, industrial equipment, and security. Utilize tracking systems and preventative maintenance schedules to ensure operational readiness.
  • Promote a safety-first culture through training, policy enforcement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead staffing efforts including hiring, training, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with third-party service providers such as refrigeration contractors, janitorial services, pest control, and security vendors.
  • Oversee procurement, inventory management, warranty recovery, and capital improvement planning for fleet and facility needs.
  • Ensure all vehicles are properly maintained and compliant with manufacturer guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Support drivers with equipment training and roadside assistance coordination. Source competitive repair services when needed.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies (e.g., OSHA, DOT, EPA) and ensure documentation and inspections are up to date.
  • Collaborate with safety teams on training, incident investigations, and emergency preparedness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision:

  • Direct oversight of maintenance and sanitation personnel, including technicians.

Internal & External Relationships:

  • Collaborates with warehouse, transportation, and sales teams.
  • Interfaces with external contractors and service providers.

Work Environment:

  • Work includes office-based tasks, on-site inspections in varied climates, and occasional time spent in refrigerated environments (as low as -5°F). May involve travel in fleet vehicles with exposure to noise and vibration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance management.
  • Familiarity with refrigeration systems (ammonia and Freon).
  • Understanding of environmental regulations and building safety codes.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and regulatory materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Flexible availability, including nights and weekends.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in refrigeration/HVAC, ammonia operations, and powered industrial equipment.
  • Fleet mechanic certifications and state inspection licenses.
  • Commercial driver's license (Class A or B).
  • Thermo King and major equipment certifications.

Travel Requirement:

  • Up to 10% travel for meetings and training.

Relocation Assistance:
