As a Metallurgist, you will play a key role in producing large-scale, high-integrity metal castings for marine propulsion systems used in defense applications. Based at a facility with a century-long legacy in metal casting and naval propulsion, you will work with bronze and stainless-steel components, leveraging modern simulation tools and lean practices. Job Responsibilities
- Develop and implement processes for molding, melting, and casting new and legacy products.
- Troubleshoot casting issues and implement corrective actions to ensure quality and compliance.
- Support daily production operations through process routings, ERP systems, and technical documentation.
- Analyze raw material chemistry and prepare accurate furnace charges.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to enhance safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and operations teams to meet demanding project requirements.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
- Associate degree in engineering with 5+ years of foundry or metal casting experience
OR - Bachelor's degree in engineering with 2+ years of experience
OR - Master's degree in engineering with 1+ year of experience
OR - In lieu of a degree, 9+ years of relevant experience in casting/foundry operations
- U.S. citizenship required (due to export control regulations; NOFORN designation applies)
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of bronze and stainless-steel casting practices
- Experience with large castings (5-80 tons) and no-bake molding methods
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
- Background in lean manufacturing environments
- Proficiency with solidification simulation software (e.g., MAGMA Flo, ProCAST, Flow-3D)
