A leading manufacturer in the food production industry is seeking a proactive and skilled Plant Engineer to join its team at the Decatur, IL facility. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of a high-performing operation by supporting production systems, equipment, and infrastructure in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Position Overview:
The Plant Engineer will be instrumental in driving operational efficiency through project execution, technical support, and continuous improvement initiatives. This individual will manage capital projects, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate across departments to maintain a safe, innovative, and productive facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering projects from planning through execution, including budgeting, procurement, and contractor oversight.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and all safety and environmental standards.
  • Deliver technical training and support to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Foster strong communication and collaboration across departments and with external partners.
  • Monitor facility operations to identify and implement process improvements and equipment upgrades.
  • Participate in daily production and quality meetings, offering engineering insights and solutions.
  • Provide safety training to contractors and ensure all work aligns with safety protocols.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and support plant process enhancements.
  • Serve as acting lead in the absence of the Engineering Superintendent.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field (Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an engineering role within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Microsoft Project and CMMS systems (e.g., MP2) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC systems is desirable.
  • Additional certifications (e.g., PE, ASME welding, wastewater, PLCs) are a plus.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • Understanding of budgeting and cost control principles.
  • Ability to create technical documentation, layouts, and maintenance plans.
  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration, steam systems, and PLCs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk long distances within the facility, climb ladders, and work in varying temperature conditions (35-45°F in coolers, 95°F+ in engine rooms).
  • Full sensory capabilities (hearing, vision, speech, smell, touch) required.
  • Basic reasoning and problem-solving skills essential for daily tasks.
