A leading food & beverage manufacturer is seeking a Quality Assurance Assistant Manager (Night Shift) to play a pivotal leadership role in driving product quality, food safety, and operational excellence. This is a high-visibility position on the plant floor, leading QA teams while partnering closely with production to ensure world-class standards across GMPs, HACCP, and customer requirements. The responsibilities of the Quality Assurance Assistant Manager will include:
- Lead and develop QA Technicians, ensuring testing is executed to formula specifications using best-in-class methods, SOPs, and quality standards.
- Own quality on the floor during your shift, supporting batch adjustments and conducting key analytical checks (brix, pH, viscosity, T.A) to ensure product consistency.
- Drive performance excellence, holding teams accountable to KPIs, SOP adherence, and elevated customer expectations.
- Champion process discipline, ensuring all control checks and documentation are completed accurately and consistently by operations.
- Take the lead on quality investigations, identifying root causes and implementing preventative actions to reduce recurrence.
- Ensure food safety and quality compliance, reviewing critical checks and escalating issues to maintain audit-ready standards.
- Help shape training and SOP development, supporting programs that reinforce compliance with SQF, regulatory, and customer requirements.
- Support team growth, contributing to skills matrices and development plans to upskill the QA organization.
- Oversee lab operations, ensuring equipment is calibrated, reliable, and functioning to support accurate testing and results.
- Manage customer sampling programs, ensuring timely, accurate preparation and shipment.
- Drive continuous improvement, reducing defects and supporting complaint investigations to enhance overall product quality.
- Own root cause analysis for off-shift incidents, leading problem-solving efforts that deliver sustainable solutions.
- Partner with leadership, supporting broader QA initiatives and site-wide quality objectives.
The ideal Quality Assurance Assistant Manager will have the following skillset:
- Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent hands-on experience in food manufacturing).
- 3+ years of experience in food production/quality, with a strong understanding of plant operations.
- Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes and product quality fundamentals, with the ability to connect production capabilities to customer expectations.
- Leverage data and systems - utilizing tools like Excel, RedZone, TraceGains, and Tableau
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment, balancing priorities with strong organization, planning, and time management skills.
