Sanitation Manager

Summary:


The Sanitation Manager leads the facility's sanitation program and ensures full compliance with food safety, regulatory, and company standards. This role oversees daily sanitation operations, develops sanitation employees, manages key sanitation programs, and partners closely with plant leadership to maintain a safe, hygienic, and audit‑ready environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the facility's sanitation program, including MSS, SSOPs, allergen controls, chemical handling, and overall sanitation processes.
  • Train, mentor, and develop sanitation employees to meet GMP expectations, ensure safe chemical use, and maintain proper sanitation practices.
  • Manage daily sanitation activities, sanitation documentation, and the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Serve as the primary contact for pest control providers and chemical vendors.
  • Support regulatory, customer, and third‑party audits, ensuring compliance with all standards.
  • Partner with Plant, Quality, Maintenance, Production, and Shipping teams to identify and resolve sanitation and environmental issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement across sanitation systems, workflows, and procedures.
  • Participate in sanitation budgeting, policy updates, and complaint reduction efforts.
  • Oversee programs such as integrated pest management (IPM), sanitation chemical control, and the uniform program.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of GMPs, MSS, SSOPs, allergen controls, chemical safety, pest control, and sanitation prerequisite programs.
  • Knowledge of federal and regulatory requirements impacting food manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with SQF or BRC auditing schemes and sanitation best practices (wet & dry sanitation steps).
  • Ability to lead teams, communicate clearly, analyze issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years food industry experience, including 5 years in a sanitation leadership role.
