Senior Manager Engineering
Position Summary
The Engineering Manager leads initiatives to optimize manufacturing operations-including injection, extrusion, and blow molding-while driving Lean and Six Sigma programs. This role oversees Engineering, Tooling, and Continuous Improvement teams to strengthen safety, quality, cost, and delivery performance. The position plays a key role in promoting continuous improvement and operational excellence across the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute a continuous improvement strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Lead and mentor Engineering, Tooling, and CI teams, promoting safety, collaboration, and accountability.
- Work with leadership to establish KPIs and performance metrics.
- Conduct performance reviews and support professional development.
- Support New Product Development on new product releases.
Process Optimization
- Oversee manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Use Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, VSM, and Root Cause Analysis to eliminate waste and inefficiency.
- Improve mold changeovers to reduce downtime and increase utilization.
- Maintain and strengthen SOPs to reduce variability.
Production & Quality Management
- Monitor daily production metrics and ensure targets for quality, cycle time, yield, and waste.
- Troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with product specifications and quality standards.
- Partner with Quality teams on root-cause analysis and preventive actions.
Project & Capital Management
- Lead capital and process-improvement projects on time and within budget.
- Assess new technologies and equipment to improve operations.
- Manage CapEx projects, including equipment selection, vendor coordination, and implementation.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
- Partner with safety teams to improve facility safety standards.
Training & Development
- Deliver training on Lean, Six Sigma, and problem-solving tools.
- Empower employees to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
Data-Driven Improvement
- Analyze production data to identify trends and measure improvement impact.
- Track KPIs such as OEE, TEEP, cycle time, scrap, and downtime, and report findings to leadership.
- Use machine-monitoring software to assess machine health and guide preventive maintenance.
Safety & Compliance
- Uphold safety, environmental, and industry compliance standards.
- Promote sustainable practices that reduce waste and energy use.
Skills & Experience
Requirements
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Proficiency in Lean, Six Sigma, and process improvement methods.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with ERP/MES systems and statistical tools.
- Excellent communication skills for training and cross-functional collaboration.
Education & Background
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or related field (Master's preferred).
- 8+ years in injection molding or plastics manufacturing.
- Proven experience leading Lean or Six Sigma projects (certifications preferred).
- 8+ years of supervisory or managerial experience.
- Experience with molding equipment, materials, and troubleshooting.
- CapEx project management experience.
