We're seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to support a heavy industrial metals manufacturing operation. This is a plant-facing engineering role focused on equipment reliability, major mechanical projects, and solving complex production equipment issues in a demanding manufacturing environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of critical production equipment failures
- Provide direct engineering support to maintenance and operations teams
- Manage large equipment rebuilds, upgrades, and capital projects
- Develop and improve preventative maintenance and equipment reliability strategies
- Serve as the technical expert for key mechanical systems within the department
- Support safety, quality, and production performance initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in manufacturing
- Experience supporting heavy industrial equipment in a production environment
- Strong background in mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication systems, rotating equipment, and maintenance engineering
- Experience leading equipment installations, rebuilds, shutdown work, or capital projects
- Comfortable spending significant time on the production floor and responding to urgent equipment issues
Strongly Preferred
- Experience in aluminum, steel, metals, foundry, rolling mill, casting, mining, or other heavy manufacturing environments
- Experience with hot process manufacturing or high-temperature operations
- Background supporting large-scale production assets rather than facility/building systems
Not a Fit If Your Background Is Primarily
- HVAC, MEP, facilities, or building systems engineering
- Product design or R&D engineering
- Aerospace design without manufacturing operations experience
- Office-based mechanical design with limited involvement in plant equipment, maintenance, or operations
