Overview
We are supporting a leading international chemicals organisation in the search for a Trade Compliance Specialist to join their EMEA compliance function based in Rotterdam. This role plays a critical part in ensuring adherence to international trade regulations, supporting both operational execution and strategic compliance initiatives across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with EU, US, and international trade regulations, including export controls, sanctions, and customs requirements
- Classify products according to HS codes, Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN), and dual-use regulations
- Manage and maintain restricted party screening processes and investigate potential matches
- Support import/export activities by ensuring accurate documentation and regulatory approvals
- Act as a key stakeholder for customs brokers, logistics providers, and internal supply chain teams
- Monitor regulatory changes and assess impact on business operations across EMEA
- Conduct internal audits and support compliance risk assessments
- Deliver training and guidance to internal stakeholders on trade compliance best practices
- Support implementation and optimisation of trade compliance systems and processes
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Trade, Law, or related field
- 3-7+ years' experience in trade compliance, export controls, or customs within manufacturing, chemicals, or a similarly regulated industry
- Strong knowledge of EU Dual-Use regulations, US Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and sanctions frameworks (OFAC preferred)
- Experience with classification, licensing, and documentation processes
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. SAP) and trade compliance tools
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and ability to manage complex regulatory requirements
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and geographies
