Position Summary

The Vehicle Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing, and deployment of control systems used in electric vehicle platforms. This role requires close collaboration with mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust vehicle-level functionality.

The ideal candidate has experience with automotive control systems using a model-based design approach and has worked across the full development lifecycle-from requirements definition through validation on prototype or production vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop embedded control software using Model-Based Design methodologies for electric vehicle systems, including:
    • Powertrain control
    • Battery and energy management
    • Thermal management
    • Charging systems
    • Vehicle-level state and fault management
  • Own control system features throughout the full V-cycle, including requirements definition, design, implementation, testing, validation, and in-vehicle support
  • Execute HIL, bench, and in-vehicle testing to verify and validate control functionality
  • Evaluate, select, and integrate control hardware while considering engineering, manufacturing, and supply-chain constraints
  • Interface with vehicle hardware including:
    • Analog and digital sensors
    • CAN and LIN networked components
    • PWM-controlled actuators (fans, pumps)
    • Power drivers and H-bridge circuits
  • Support vehicle integration, system bring-up, and root-cause troubleshooting
  • Define diagnostic procedures and support production and service teams as needed
  • Maintain clear documentation and follow structured engineering processes

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
    Equivalent experience may be considered

Experience

  • 2-5 years of experience developing and testing automotive or EV control systems
  • Strong experience with MATLAB/Simulink, including Test, Requirements, and Projects
  • Experience implementing controls for powertrain and/or thermal systems
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git-based workflows)
  • Experience using Vector tooling such as CANape, CANoe, or CANalyzer
  • Understanding of embedded systems development using the V-cycle
  • Strong understanding of vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN)
  • Hands-on experience with electrical diagnostics and test equipment:
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Multimeters
    • Power supplies
    • Signal generators
  • Experience with ECU calibration and diagnostics, including XCP/CCP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with vehicle powertrain systems, energy management, or vehicle dynamics
  • CAPL scripting experience
  • Demonstrated ownership of projects from requirements through validation
  • Automotive or EV industry experience
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Genuine interest in vehicles or automotive technology
