Job Title: Commodity Manager
Location: San Diego, CA
Department: Supply Chain / Procurement
Compensation: $130,000-$155,000 base + bonus
Position Summary:
This role is critical in managing strategic sourcing and procurement activities for key commodities within the aerospace and defense sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supplier management, cost reduction strategies, and contract negotiations, with a deep understanding of industry regulations and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute commodity strategies aligned with company goals for cost, quality, delivery, and innovation.
- Identify, evaluate, and manage a global supply base for assigned commodities (e.g., machined parts, electronics, composites, raw materials).
- Lead supplier selection, qualification, and performance management processes.
- Negotiate long-term agreements and pricing structures to ensure cost competitiveness and supply continuity.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and program management teams to support new product development and sustainment programs.
- Monitor market trends, risks, and opportunities to proactively manage supply chain disruptions.
- Ensure compliance with ITAR, FAR/DFARS, and other applicable government regulations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the supply base to enhance value and reduce total cost of ownership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in commodity management, strategic sourcing, or procurement within the aerospace and defense industry.
- Strong knowledge of government contracting requirements and defense industry regulations.
- Proven negotiation and contract management skills.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and procurement tools.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in supply chain (e.g., CPSM, CPIM, PMP).
- Experience with Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
- Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO quality standards.
