Role Overview
This position shapes the future of coating technologies across Andersen's product portfolio. The engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing paints, stains, and coating application processes that impact product performance, quality, and manufacturing efficiency. The role works closely with design, operations, and sourcing teams and leads initiatives that move coating solutions from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities
Coatings Development & Innovation
- Lead development and optimization of coating materials and processes to improve product performance, durability, and quality.
- Validate new coating technologies through testing, experimentation, and production-scale trials.
- Monitor industry trends and assess new coatings for potential integration into Andersen products.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, materials groups, and suppliers to drive innovation and cohesive solutions.
Implementation & Operations Support
- Support rollout of new coating materials and application processes across manufacturing sites.
- Provide technical expertise for coatings‑related questions, training, and specification development.
- Partner with operations to troubleshoot and resolve coatings performance or application issues.
Quality, Testing & Continuous Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement using DOE, FMEA, capability studies, and other statistical/quality tools.
- Conduct or oversee lab testing, performance evaluations, and material analysis for coatings‑related projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
- Strong hands‑on troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities
- Proven project management experience in collaborative environments
- Solid understanding of product development processes
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with manufacturing environments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience using statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP, or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering or technical experience in coatings development, testing, or process engineering
- Working knowledge of coatings and exposure to materials such as adhesives, wood, composites, or metals
- Experience in the fenestration industry or a related manufacturing environment
- Background in materials analysis or advanced analytical techniques
