Tooling Engineer

An innovative plastics manufacturing facility is seeking a talented Tooling Engineer with a passion for designing and building plastic injection molds. This role is ideal for someone with over five years of experience in mold design or plastic injection mold building, who thrives in a collaborative, cross-functional environment and is eager to drive process improvements on the manufacturing floor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage tooling-related projects from initial design through PPAP, ensuring seamless execution and delivery.
  • Lead the review and continuous improvement of preventive maintenance programs for injection molds, utilizing advanced maintenance software.
  • Oversee tooling, spare parts, and replenishment processes to ensure optimal production efficiency.
  • Conduct tool condition reports for key tools at specified intervals.
  • Collaborate with operations, quality, and engineering teams to resolve production challenges and support troubleshooting efforts.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of all phases of mold development.
  • Interface directly with both internal and external tooling vendors to ensure quality and timely delivery.
  • Respond decisively to tooling issues, implementing effective countermeasures as needed.
  • Support dynamic, cross-functional teams across sales, engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Research, analyze, recommend, and implement new technologies related to plastic injection molding.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in plastic mold injection design or injection molding fabrication, with prior experience as a Tooling Engineer in a manufacturing setting (preferably in plastic injection molding).
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent extensive related work experience, or completion of an apprenticeship in plastic injection mold-making.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, preferably using SolidWorks or equivalent software.
  • Hands-on experience with plastics, either through design or manufacturing as a toolmaker; experience with multi-shot in-mold assembly and/or elastomer molding is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in project-driven process improvements, resulting in enhanced quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Experience with plastics molding processing and troubleshooting on the production floor is highly desirable.
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to identify and resolve part design and tooling issues.
  • Goal-oriented with excellent planning and project management abilities.
  • Proactive, persistent, and deadline-driven, with a commitment to follow-through.
