Our client, a global pharmaceutical leader, is seeking a Direct Procurement Manager to oversee sourcing and supplier management for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients, chemical raw materials, packaging components, and contract manufacturing services. This role is pivotal in ensuring the secure, timely, and compliant supply of materials for commercial products and new product development (NPD), while supporting strategic initiatives and robust business continuity plans.

Role Overview

The Direct Procurement Manager will develop and execute global sourcing strategies for direct materials critical to pharmaceutical manufacturing. You will manage strategic supplier relationships, negotiate and maintain contracts, and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards. The role requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders across Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing, R&D, and Regulatory Affairs to align procurement activities with business objectives and deliver cost optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead global sourcing strategies for APIs, excipients, raw materials, packaging, and components
  • Manage supplier performance and ensure continuity of supply for commercial and NPD projects
  • Negotiate and maintain supplier contracts, applying sound contracting principles
  • Drive risk management initiatives and implement robust business continuity plans
  • Support second-source strategies and cost-saving opportunities
  • Monitor supply chain vulnerabilities and deliver measurable improvements in cost, service, and quality

Requirements

  • MSc/BSc in Life Sciences, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in direct procurement within pharma or similar industry
  • Proven expertise in sourcing APIs, excipients, and chemical raw materials
  • Strong negotiation, supplier relationship, and financial analysis skills
  • Experience with SAP and procurement tools
  • Ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects and deliver transformational change
