Merchandise Planning Manager
Position Overview:
The Merchandise Planning Manager will lead the financial planning process for one or more key product categories. You'll partner with Merchandising, Buying, Allocation, and Finance teams to build assortment strategies, manage inventory flow, and maximize margin. This is a critical role that combines analytical rigor with strategic thinking and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and manage pre-season sales, margin, and inventory plans in alignment with company goals.
Provide in-season forecasting, identifying sales trends and recommending actions to meet financial targets.
Partner with Buying and Merchandising teams to align assortment strategies with financial objectives.
Monitor inventory levels, recommend replenishment strategies, and manage open-to-buy (OTB) budgets.
Analyze historical data and current trends to inform planning and allocation decisions.
Lead seasonal hindsight reviews and contribute to long-term merchandise strategy.
Mentor and develop junior planning staff, if applicable.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Retail Management, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in merchandise planning, inventory management, or financial planning, preferably in a retail or consumer goods environment.
Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel proficiency; experience with planning tools (e.g., JDA, Oracle Retail, or similar) is preferred.
Proven ability to interpret data, identify trends, and influence decision-making.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Experience managing a team or cross-functional project is a plus.
