Food Ingredient Specialist

Overview:
A leading health and wellness company is seeking a Research and Development Scientist to support ingredient innovation and integration within its nutrition product line. This role focuses on on-boarding new and novel ingredients-ranging from dairy and plant-based macros to fats, oils, vitamins, and minerals-into infant formula manufacturing processes across multiple facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical supplier approval and qualification for new ingredients and vendors.
  • Develop and maintain ingredient specifications that support manufacturability and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical support for ingredient-related issues at manufacturing sites.
  • Analyse ingredient data to assess suitability for production.
  • Manage change processes for ingredient implementation across facilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Procurement, Quality, Regulatory, and Product Development.
  • Conduct risk assessments and support contaminant monitoring programs.
  • Assist with compliance and audit-related activities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Minimum: BS in a science-related field with a strong foundation in nutrition, chemistry, and manufacturing.
    • Preferred: BS in Food Science, Chemistry, Nutrition, or related discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Knowledge of ingredient science, GMPs, and manufacturing principles.
    • Familiarity with statistics and chemistry.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with SAP, SLIM, Ensur, Open Text, Track Wise, and statistical tools is a plus.
    • Strong attention to detail and project management skills.
    • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and adapt to shifting priorities.
    • Effective cross-functional collaboration skills.
    • Understanding of nutritional manufacturing processes and food chemistry is advantageous.
    • Curiosity, consumer focus, and alignment with core values.
