Customs Clearance Specialist - Swiss/German Border (Import & Export) (M/F/D)
About the company My client is a well-established international logistics business offering transport, forwarding and customs services to a broad mix of customers. They're growing their cross-border team and want an experienced customs specialist who likes varied, fast-moving work where they deal directly with clients.
The role You'll own customs clearance for goods moving between Switzerland and Germany, keeping shipments compliant from start to finish. It's a hands-on job that mixes technical customs work with regular contact with clients, drivers and the authorities.
Key responsibilities
- Process import, export and transit declarations across the Swiss/German border, making sure they're accurate and on time.
- Handle clearances for a varied client base, including businesses, forwarders, hauliers and private customers.
- Manage transit documents and track open files through to closure, keeping an eye on deadlines throughout.
- Advise clients and drivers on what documents are needed and how the process works, so goods aren't held up at the border.
- Act as the link between clients, customs offices, fiscal agents and internal colleagues.
- Check declarations, fix administrative issues, and look into and report any irregularities.
- Keep shipment data and records in the operating systems accurate and up to date.
- Handle counter payments, filing and archiving in line with record-keeping rules.
- Cover for colleagues when needed so the service keeps running during busy periods and absences.
The profile
- Proven hands-on experience in customs clearance, ideally covering Swiss and German procedures.
- Good working knowledge of cross-border rules, customs procedures and the documents they require for Switzerland-Germany trade.
- Background in freight forwarding, logistics, international trade or a similar field. A formal customs qualification is a strong plus.
- Confident with customs software and MS Office.
- Fluent German and French, spoken and written. English is an advantage.
- Driving licence is a bonus.
