Transportation Supervisor
A leading food manufacturing organization with a strong national presence is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to oversee daily transportation operations and support the efficient movement of products across its distribution network. This role will lead transportation personnel, manage carrier relationships, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive service, cost, and performance improvements. The position is highly visible within the supply chain organization and plays a critical role in maintaining delivery performance, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily transportation operations, including routing, dispatch, scheduling, and load planning to ensure on-time delivery performance.
- Lead, coach, and develop transportation staff while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
- Manage relationships with carriers and logistics providers, monitoring service levels, performance metrics, and transportation costs.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, food safety, and company transportation policies.
- Track transportation KPIs, identify process improvement opportunities, and implement solutions that improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Partner with warehouse, planning, procurement, customer service, and sales teams to support seamless product flow and capacity management.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of transportation, logistics, distribution, or fleet management experience.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, transportation compliance, and safety requirements.
- Experience managing carriers, freight providers, transportation performance, and related budgets.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Experience within food manufacturing, food distribution, or consumer packaged goods environments.
- Familiarity with ERP and TMS platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or Manhattan.
- Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience.
- Multi-site transportation or distribution network experience.
- Demonstrated ability to balance customer service, operational performance, and cost management.
