About the Company
A leading food and consumer products manufacturer is seeking an EHS Specialist to support wastewater treatment operations and environmental compliance initiatives across a network of manufacturing facilities. This individual will serve as a technical resource for wastewater process optimization, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence while partnering with environmental, engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to improve system performance and reliability.
The EHS Specialist will be responsible for...
- Serving as the subject matter expert for industrial wastewater treatment processes, system performance, and troubleshooting.
- Leading optimization efforts for lagoon treatment, dissolved air flotation (DAF), equalization, and neutralization systems.
- Collaborating with engineering, operations, maintenance, and EHS teams to evaluate process modifications and capital improvements.
- Monitoring and analyzing treatment system performance through operational data, laboratory testing, and trend analysis.
- Identifying process improvement opportunities to increase treatment efficiency while reducing chemical usage and operating costs.
- Supporting the operation and reliability of pumps, aerators, clarifiers, and related treatment infrastructure.
- Developing standardized operating procedures, playbooks, and best practices across multiple manufacturing facilities.
- Ensuring compliance with wastewater discharge permits and applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Supporting permit applications, renewals, inspections, audits, and interactions with regulatory agencies.
- Establishing standards for sampling programs, operational logs, recordkeeping, and performance reporting.
- Traveling regularly to manufacturing sites to assess operations and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Providing technical training and guidance to operators and plant personnel on wastewater treatment processes, safety, and compliance requirements.
The EHS Specialist will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience operating, optimizing, or supporting industrial or municipal wastewater treatment systems.
- Strong knowledge of lagoon systems, dissolved air flotation (DAF), equalization, neutralization, and biological treatment processes.
- Experience analyzing operational and laboratory data to identify trends and drive corrective actions.
- Experience with process controls, SCADA systems, wastewater monitoring programs, and laboratory testing procedures.
- Knowledge of wastewater discharge permitting and environmental compliance requirements.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to operations, maintenance, and leadership teams.
- Experience with wastewater solids management and land application programs is preferred.
- Wastewater Operator Certification, EIT, or PE designation is preferred.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% to support multiple manufacturing facilities.
